...Killed the Video Store: Bring back Blockbuster!

I miss Blockbuster!! I miss video stores! I miss being able to browse at my leisure, see all the hits - past and present, to touch the cases, read the synopsis, be pulled in by cool looking covers. I liked knowing there was a HUGE selection.

Redbox has killed the video store. I hate standing out in the cold, or rain, holding up the cover, with people lining up behind you, or having to wait just to return a dvd. The selection is AWFUL most the time. It is AMAZING how many bad movies are out there and that seems to be all there is to choose from most days you decide to rent. Also Redbox keeps going up in price.

We were able to rent movies the other day (older ones) for 99cents each for 5 days! It was so nice to be able to watch the movies when it was convenient for us. Also Blockbuster does offer streaming and dvd's sent to you.

Netflix has also killed the video store. It was so awesome when it first came out. It had endless offerings, and such a great selection of older movies. Now it's mostly B or worse movies. The site/app is so hard to navigate, it only shows a small portion of what they have. You have to know the name of what you want and type it in. I just want to see what I can get, easy and simple. Also it would be nice to categorize things by rating, rather than scrolling through endless titles. Netflix is basically only utilized for tv shows for me.

Lets bring back video stores! It was always so exciting as a kid to get to go and pick movies, keep the nostalgia, go rent a movie today!

Enjoy!

  3. I totally agree, screw Netflix and these online rental stores. It makes people fatter and lazier to get off the couch. I also miss the old days of walking into the store and browsing the selection, getting movie deals with snacks. It hurts me too because I used to work at Blockbuster and rogers video here in Canada, and it was by far the best 2 jobs I ever had and I miss both rental stores. Then we have people complaining about late fees ? well no shit you get what you pay for, you pay for a weekly rental then return it in that time, these people just want free extended rentals.
I say bring back Blockbuster and rogers video worldwide, lets kill Netflix and other online rental stores.
P.S - Both blockbuster and rogers video should return as physical rental stores again not online.

  4. Yeah I am totally with everything posted here. Netflix is absolute trash now, redbox totally blows, and we have nowhere to go for all the good old movies that you could easily find at Blockbuster. Basically Netflix and Redbox destroyed the whole movies at home experience. Such a bummer.

  5. I don't think that there is a large enough market for a major chain like Blockbuster but there should enough for the small mom and pop stores. I wouldn't be surprised to see them start popping up, which is actually really cool because I always hated Blockbuster. Look what they did to the video store market. You use to be able to go out and get all kinds of movies from the new to the old classics from your local generic video store but Blockbuster destroyed all of them with their very limited selection. I'm glad to see them gone but would like to see the small stores start popping up again.

  6. I can't watch the movies I want because I suck at computer crap. Been trying to watch a movie for 3 days and finely gave up . There must be some sort of disconnect because I can't rent the movie because there is no option to rent or buy the piece of crap. I am so sick of this s..t I can't stand it. pease make it easy for the people that don't have time to learn this tech crap. Bring back my video store because our movie night is nothing more than a constant disappointment. P.s. f..k you net flks.

  7. Blockbuster's online service dwarfed all other sub-standard DVD rental services such as Love film and Netflix. These so-called film rental services don't seem to have a clue. They are not synonymous with 'loving films', only trying to please the mass market. Blockbuster understood that those who enjoy films like what's out now, what's coming and want to explore films that have passed us by, either by being clouded by media hype of larger projects, or missed in our filmic-epoch, and these films which we may wish to explore are not limited to the few which have grossed over x-amount at the box office. Bring back Blockbuster's, their unrestricted choice, well-crafted cataloguing, search functions, and rich pages full of film viewers opinions, general info and trailers alongside each entry.

  11. There should be a petition to join Bob's army against Google plus and make Google plus die so that we will have freedoms to comment on YouTube videos as much as we want

  12. I wish Blockbuster was still around. Netflix is great and all, but nothing compares to going over to a Blockbuster and renting a movie, it's an experience. I have so many great memories of Blockbuster, and it would be awesome if it came back.

    1. I thought I was the only one who missed video stores. The smell of the store, looking through lots of fun movies. Even sometimes a small video store was fun. I love buying off Amazon though. I've never gotten anything off Netflix. Redbox a few times, but the selection is cruddy and I lost interest in it. I used to be a real 60's nut. But now I have a fondness for the 80's too! And video stores are definitely have an 80's feel to them.
